Catholics Down Yonder

A Show about Catholic life in the deep South.

I have spent the first week of Lent doing something I used to do a couple of years ago on a daily basis, listening to podcasts. Over the course of the last year or so somehow I got distracted and I stopped paying attention to the podcasts and the connections with friends I made in Catholic New Media specifically.

Tonight I started the process to turn that around, I sat in on Catholics in a Small Town live recording over at SQPNConnect.ing.com. I got to chat with several folks I know, fellow listeners like Mike, Denyse, Debi, Deborah, Maria, Dan, Mary, Tom, and at the end Sean from Canada. It was great to chat with the gang again and get back in touch. Mac and Katherine are doing a great job with CST. Afterward Sean and I had a Skype conversation about a variety of subjects and we had a great 90 minute conversation.

I have spent less time on TV watching and more time catching up on podcasts. On average I am listening to 10 podcasts a day so as a result I am making headway on the list in iTunes. I am looking forward to recording some feedback for these shows.

So what about Catholics Down Yonder? Well as many of you know, I started recording a podcast after being a long time listener. So if you permit me to, I want to experience this rebirth as an active listener while I decide what to do for a podcast. I think I am looking at something different then what we have done before. Maybe something involving adoption from a Catholic parent perspective. But most of all I want it to be fun for both me and the listener.

Anyone that has been following my Facebook and Twitter updates knows by now that we are in the middle of a legal battle to gain custody of Gaberiel Paul back. We are also in the process of filing our adoption application to be adoptive parents. When CDY starts back again and it will at some point, it will be with a focus of being Catholic adoptive parents. I have looked for adoption podcasts and have found to be an area of opportunity for a adoption podcast from a Catholic perspective. So what does that mean for CDY? Well basically I’m looking at a podcast rebuilt from the ground up. I would love to have Catholic parents in new media on the show and some not in new media at all on. So please keep the feedback coming it is much appreciated as well as the many prayers we have received. God bless!

Hey everybody, I just wanted to give an update on the status of the Catholics Down Yonder podcast.

Are we still going to podcast?

Yes! It has been more of a timing adjustment than anything else. We realize that being parents now there are more pressing issues than getting out a weekly podcast.

When is the next podcast?

We are hoping to have one out sometime next week. The H2 is charged and ready to go and I still know how to use Ubercaster and uStream.

Will we be at the Catholic New Media Celebration in San Antonio on the 27th?

No, unfortunately being we are foster parents we can not take our little man out of the state so we will not be able to attend this year. But we look forward to attending next years CNMC.

I am looking forward to some future episodes and we have some great topics we want to bring up on the show. It will be both faith and family filled and we are looking forward to sharing with you all how are last few months have been since we last podcast. So please stay tuned for episode #45 and GOD BLESS!!

So as many of you may have noticed it has been a while since we put out a podcast. Just wanted to assure you all that we are still looking forward to our next podcast episode.
So why the delay you may ask? Well a couple of reasons, most notably we have had a cute 6 month old baby boy placed with us in foster care so our schedules have had a big adjustment.
Second, for the last 3 weeks I have been battling a bad cough. It was so bad it actually forced me to the doctors office where I was placed on antibiotics and received a steroid shot to help fight it. The amount of coughing on a podcast would lead to a ton of editing. But I am happy to say I am quickly on the mend.
So with all that said we are looking forward to podcasting possibly this Sunday evening and will be on a uStream as usual. Hope to see you all there. Stay tuned via our a Facebook group for the time.
